“South Bend, Arks / Nov 1st 1862 / Due 10” all in manuscript, ONE OF FOUR RECORDED in Roberts census, on edge worn / soiled cover to N. B. Floyd, Eagle Lake, Colorado County, Texas; endorsed “From H. M. Alford 6th Regiment Texas Infantry” Ex Lemley, Gallagher, Clippert. $300.
M. Alford shown as enlisting as a private in Co. G, 6th Texas Infantry, Garland’s Brigade, Churchill’s Division, 2nd Corps, Trans-Mississippi Department. At least one Austin, Texas, postmaster’s provisional was sent to this correspondent per Charles Deaton in The Great Texas Stamp Collection and a Mesilla, New Mexico, Arizona Territory cover as well. Would have been a nice correspondence to see before broken up!
