New 2-25-23

Price: $4,500

Outgoing blockade-run mail from Mobile Ala to Liverpool England via Havana, Cuba, with various colorful transit 1862 markings on October 31, 1861, folded business letter from J.C. Murrell (Joseph C. Murrell was a cotton broker in Mobile, Alabama) to Messr. Huth & Co., dealers in Liverpool. Manuscript “Steamer” at upper left. The letter was delayed almost a full year in transit, probably in Cuba for whatever unknown reason. Instead of going directly to Liverpool, it was routed through Southampton and London. Handstamped 6d for British postage due. Letter instructions are to route mail back to Mobile through Havana. Walske census BO-Hav-4, said to be one of only 4 known routed to England, 2000 PSE Certificate 41203. Ex Ralph Swap. Exceptionally nice and scarce blockade cover. $4,500.
