Capt. John Charles McClenaghan (1835-1863) served in the Confederate Quartermaster Department. He was cited for bravery at First Manassas while serving as regimental quartermaster with the 8th South Carolina Infantry. He died of disease while on Morris Island March 15, 1863, in defense of Charleston Harbor, while serving as first quartermaster on Col. R.F. Graham’s staff. He was married to Mary Sophia Betts (1834-1930).
