Virginia Pendergrast “Jennie” Barron Baird (1845-1888) was the daughter of famed U.S. and Confederate Naval officer Commodore Samuel Barron. The son and nephew of U.S. Navy captains, he was appointed a midshipman at the age of two, reported for active duty at six and sailed aboard the flagship of the Mediterranean fleet before he was eleven! His is an amazing story.
