CSA 7-R-v4 pair, 5¢ cobalt blue (tiniest edge faults) with scarce BRASS RULE across top, tied red DANVILLE VA. circular datestamp on over to Mr. Don Lanier, Malonesville, Dinwiddie Co. Va. See the article about Brass Rules in the 1st Quarter 2019 Confederate Philatelist, available on this website under Articles. In the 2012 CSA Catalog, no brass rules were recorded on nor off cover on local paper, thus the listing was made as NR (none recorded). Nor was a Brass Rule recorded on cover for De La Rue paper at that time either. The 2019 Andersen/Kaufmann article changed that. Both the shade of the stamp (there is no official listing for “cobalt” but old-school collectors still use that descriptor) and Brass Rules are both unusual and scarce. Ex Ralph Swap. $400.
