Isaac Jarratt was a soldier in the War of 1812, landholder, merchant, and slave trader in Montgomery, Ala., and Huntsville, N.C. The Jarratt Papers, 1832-1979, are housed in the Southern Historical Collection at UNC. His son, Isaac Augustus Jarratt (1841-1890), of Huntsville, Conrads, and Fayetteville, N.C., was a planter, merchant, and distiller. The younger Jarratt received an A.B. from the University of North Carolina in 1861 and served as a captain in Company C, 26th North Carolina Infantry Regiment, during the Civil War.
