Walton, CSA 12, 10¢ deep blue (light margin crease) tied CHARLOTTESVILLE / VA // DEC / 18 / 1864 dcds, U.S. postage paid with US 65, 3¢ rose tied by bold segmented cork, entered U.S. mails with OLD POINT COMFORT / VA // JAN / 17 [1865] dcds, manuscript censor's initial “L” noted in Harrison as in use January 1865; minor soiling, Very Fine mixed-franking through the lines prisoner cover, ex Ashbrook and Engstler. $1,500.

Charles P. Walton enlisted 3-1-62 at Charlottesville as a private and was mustered into Company F, Virgnia 19th Infantry, Hunton’s Brigade, Pickett’s Division, 1st Corps, Army of Northern Virginia. Gunshot wound in left thigh and frag shell right knee at Gettysburg 7-3-63; on the rolls at Letterman General Hospital, Gettysburg; confined in Baltimore at West’s Building Hospital with smallpox; followed by time at Fort McHenry; at Point Lookout for exchange 7-21-1854; on the rolls at Camp Lee, Va, 2-2-65 and paroled/exchanged 2-18-65, last paroled at Charlottesville, 5-17-65.
