FARMVILLE / VA // OCT / 29 / 1861 neat cds with matching PAID 5, CC type B, on outer folded lettersheet (no contents) to Capt. Wm. A. Perkins of Cumberland Troop, Cavalry Camp below Yorktown, Va with docket at top “Paid J. S. Armistead.” Cover looks far bluer than scanned image. $250.
Captain William A. Perkins was in charge of Co. G, 3rd Virginia Cavalry and served until March 1862 when he resigned due to family hardship: “Wife and eight children left with no support on sudden death of my father.”
