TUDOR HALL / Va. // JAN / 12 / 1862 cds with matching DUE 5 on cover to Dr. Gessner Harrison (1807-62), Arrington Depot, Nelson Co., Virginia, with soldier endorsement of “P.G. Harrison [Co. H, 2nd Va Cavalry]” small stain at bottom. Note on verso, “Send me some paper and envelopes, ink, pens and holder. P.G.H.” Military records included. Ex Brandon. $160.

Peachy Gessner Harrison (1839-1926) was a 21-year old student at the University of Virginia when he enlisted on 5-24-1961 at Appomattox County as a private and was mustered into Co. H, 2nd Va. Cavalry, Radford’s Re’t, Radford’s Rangers, 30 Virginia Vols. He rose through the ranks to 3rd Sergt. He was detailed to the Signal Corps 10-15-62, wounded at Kelly’s Ford 3-17-63, hospitalized with contusion of thigh 1-27-65. His papers (1881-86) are at William & Mary. Buried at Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond.
